From April 18 to 20, the 20th China International Meat Industry Exhibition was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province.

This is the largest, highest-standard, most professional and highest turnover meat trade exhibition in Asia. It features various meats as well as the latest slaughtering equipment, processing equipment, packaging equipment, packaging materials, cold chain logistics equipment, food ingredients and production and processing facilities and equipment in the industry. It also presents the most advanced industrial development concepts.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province took the lead to organize representatives from Changsha, Xiangtan, Hengyang, and other prominent production areas, as well as industry associations and major enterprises, to participate in joint investment promotion negotiations and cooperation talks.

During the three days in Shandong Province, the delegation not only participated in the opening ceremony and toured the exhibition hall but also held two business meetings and two investment promotion conferences. In 2022, Hunan produced 62.48 million live pigs, accounting for 9% of the country’s total live pig production. This ranked Hunan second in the country and first in central China.

To transform from a large live pig province to a strong live pig province, Hunan has implemented the high-quality Xiang pig project in recent years. This project aims to promote the development of Hunan’s pig industry by constructing a complete industry chain, including joint breeding, large-scale breeding, slaughtering and processing, and cold chain sales. The goal is to improve the quality of Xiang pigs and make Hunan’s meat industry bigger and stronger.

Wu Shenshu, director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs’animal husbandry and veterinary division, stated: “We must target large domestic and foreign meat companies and increase our investment promotion efforts. Our goal is to accelerate the transformation from ‘transporting pigs’ to ‘transporting meat’ and make Hunan’s meat industry bigger and stronger. We aim to create a national meat processing highland.”
